According to the senior executive vice-president of Central Group of Companies, Lertvit Pumipitak, the company will construct Porto de Phuket which will stand in a 50 rai plot of land located in Bang Tao. The development will start next year and the group is positive that it will be completed before 2019 ends. This will be a new offering to those who booked wedding packages in Phuket and are planning to hold their venue in the island next year.
There are two phases proposed for the construction. The first phase will be constructed using the 20 rai plot of land the development will center around the outdoor lifestyle mall which will span 40,000 square meters.
There are going to be seven features inside the lifestyle mall such as a Food Hall equipped with eateries, beverage stores, bars, a Phuketian Mercado and cafes. The Central Food Hall will have a restaurant along with a café zone. It will also feature a multi-design house that will have different creative products to shoppers produced by top designers from various parts of the globe. Many of the stores will be presented in new formats specifically for the mall such as B2S, Supersports, FamilyMart convenience store and the Power Buy.
Food Hall’s executive vice-president, Central Food Retail Co’s international buyer, Tops Supermarket and Food Hall’s operator, Nick Reitmeier, said that the company is going to fund the project with 120 to 150 million baht in order to construct the Food Hall which will be located inside Porto de Phuket and it will span 3,000 square metres.
The main reason why the group decided to build the project in Phuket is because of the island’s potential when it comes to the tourism sector. Last year alone, there were 16.9 million tourists that visited the island which brought an additional 399 billion baht to the country’s economy. In the coming years, it is expected that around 20 to 25 million tourists will visit the country and bring in 555 billion baht in revenue. Add the growing interest in wedding packages in Phuket from international tourists who are planning to tie the knot in the island, the next few years will surely be a good one for Phuket.
